Hanji is a traditional Korean handmade paper which is made of mulberry tree. It has been famous for its natural color and durability. Our ancestor has used this for many daily products and for traditional door in Korean houses.
Korean center would like people to experience the beauty of Hanji with hands on activity. People will make small coaster with pre-cut Hanji by themselves and write names and favorites words in Korean on it. Instructors will tell them how to write their names/words in Korean at this activity.
Korean Center, Inc. (KCI), founded in 1974, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community by providing informational, educational, and social services to underserved immigrant and other communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 1984, after three years of persistence and hard work, the Multi-Service Center for Koreans obtained a new, permanent home on Post Street. The agency was renamed Korean Center, Inc. and provided services to all age groups and a diverse population including Russian refugees, Southeast Asians, and African-Americans.
In 1995, KCI established the Intercultural Institute of California (IIC), which offers Master of Arts degrees in Professional Application of Korean Studies (PAKS) and Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language (TKFL), and certificate programs in Korean Language and English as a Second Language. Currently, IIC offers ESL and Business English courses to students from around the world.
